 WE ARE CURRETNLY WORKING

 WITH A GROUP OF STUDENTS

HEADING TO CUBA-CHECK THEIR STORY.

Our Story

Help send us to Cuba! Ten Lewis & Clark students are heading to Cuba for spring break as part of semester-long course, "Imagining a Renewable Cuba." Each student is working throughout the semester both independently and collaboratively to design research projects about different aspects of Cuban society ranging from sustainable energy, folklore, music, religion, race and ethnicity, nationalism, and more. We are so excited to explore Cuba not only from an academic lens, but also in an applied context. This trip is an incredible opportunity to do hands-on research, conduct interviews, and experience Cuban culture firsthand. Our 10 days in Cuba will be the culminating experience of the class, and a chance to extend our learning beyond the classroom.

The opening of U.S./ Cuban relations is undeniably a historic moment that we will be fortunate enough to witness firsthand. The U.S.' reversing of policies that have been in place since the 1960s marks a crucial turning point in both of our countries histories. Beyond the knowledge we as students hope to gain, our goal is also to strengthen the existing relationship between Lewis & Clark and various Cuban institutions. This extends beyond the trip's participants; each student will bring their projects back to Lewis & Clark to share with our larger community through student-conducted presentations and discussions centered around their material and experiences open to all community members, as well as a continuation of the program for next spring.

We are working hard to raise the necessary funds for the trip. Between the generous grants from Lewis & Clark to hosting events throughout the year to contributions from friends, family, and other community members we hope to reach our goal of $4,000 or more. These funds will help us cover the high costs of traveling with a group, while making the opportunity equally accessible regardless of financial means. A donation of any amount would be greatly appreciated. Thank your for your support, we are all so so excited for this opportunity to connect Lewis & Clark to Cuba!
